Pictures in the Mind

I have been practising using words in my writing that give readers pictures in their minds.
On the 14th of November 2013, our school had our Athletics Day. We had some events like Long Jump, High Jump, Sprints and Shot Put.
The first event we did was shot put. When the 9 year old girls and boys had run as fast as a rocket to the Shot Put, we all had to write our names on the big lined piece of paper.
When it was my turn, I picked up the put, shaped like a circle. I said, “This is so heavy, it feels like lead.”
When I threw the heavy put, I thought I might hit Karen, the instructor. I didn’t hit her. That was lucky. After a few tiring throws, the hooter went and it sounded like a fire siren.
